Last month I introduced a new TBR series focused on science fiction and fantasy (my favorite genres). Today, I wanted to create a quick TBR of books that I want to read but are huge challenges to complete. These scary SF/F, as I like to call them, might be really long books I don’t know when I’ll have the time for or ones that have quite a bit of science and hard sci-fi that would take a lot of brain power to read through. Either way, I plan on delving into this scary SF/F at some point in time.
Check out my scary TBR below!
The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov – Asimov’s hard sci-fi already interests me, and I wanted to delve into his more well-known books. I found out this series is three books, two sequels, and two prequels instead of just the three books. I love hard sci-fi, I just need to figure out when and how to get started reading.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan – I’ve heard a lot of stories of people trying to force themselves to read through the entire series just to say they did. However, I don’t know if I’ll ever go that far. I might make a goal of completing at least one book in the series. This is one of those where the series is so massive even the idea of starting it feels overwhelming, but one book sounds more doable.
Dune by Frank Herbert – I have a friend who read the entire series and who highly recommended I do the same. There’s also the debate on which ones to read. Not all of them are by Frank Herbert. This might be a series where the first book puts me on the right path.
The Death of Arthur by Sir Thomas Mallory – yet another book that I don’t know when I’ll get to because of how long it is. In creating my gigantic TBR, I like to include books from medieval periods. This one is a must-read for anyone who enjoys medieval history or literature. But this book includes nearly every King Arthur story, and there are so many the book is about 800 pages long. On the other hand, reading one story or more a day until you finish sounds like a fun reading challenge for the year.
I’m still working on my TBR from last month. Right now, it doesn’t look like I’ll reach my goal of two books by the end of this year. But that’s fine! Maybe these two lists added books to your TBR. Happy reading!
How many of these have you read? Did you enjoy reading them or not so much?
