5 Hard Sci-fi Books on my TBR

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another TBR post. (Yes, I thought I would make more than one this month, especially since it’s a new year. And besides, these posts are always enjoyable to write. I wanted to share some hard sci-fi books that are on my SF/F TBR list! Check them out below.

I mentioned this in my last TBR post, but I thought I would bring it up again. The story centers around Louis Wu and a gigantic ring that was constructed by aliens.

I had heard about the movie for this one, but I was interested in reading the book because it was hard sci-fi. It tells the story of contact between humans and aliens, and I heard it was a pretty realistic depiction of what it could be like to meet aliens.

This book has a lot to do with the three-body problem in physics, which I started researching because it looked so interesting. In this story, Earth encounters a group of aliens, which exists in a part of space where the three-body problem exists.

I’ve read a few stories by Isaac Asimov, including Bicentennial Man and Robot Dreams. I also heard that this included several short stories on top of a trilogy of novels, but I think I’ll be able to start with the first book from 1951. This centers around an actual Foundation built to preserve the history of a galactic civilization.

I recently found a copy of this story at a second-hand bookstore! It centers around Andrew, or “Ender,” who is trained as a young child through war games to fight insect-like aliens.

Have any hard sci-fi you would like to recommend? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Most of these are solid picks. Ringworld is the best on that list. Hell you could add anything by Larry Niven

  2. Armor by John Steakley
Regular read, and I audiobook it too. I have other regular reads but this is my suggestion for hard sci-fi.

  3. Ringworld is fantastic. The universe Larry Niven built also spans across multiple books, not only the Ringworld series. You will not be disappointed. Look up “Neutron Star” – one of his early stories.
It’s a similar story with Ender’s Game. The author wrote several sequels and stories running parallel to the main books. Lots of entertaining reading.
Asimov is a classic I loved, but got stuck in the middle of the third instalment of Foundation. I think I should try to return to it.
