Hello and welcome back to Sci-fi Month! This week I thought I would continue with a few science fiction novellas that are on my TBR. If you have read any of them, did you enjoy them? Also, what were your favorite parts? I hope to create some more Sci-fi Month posts about my favorite SF authors and authors I want to read more of. Happy reading!

Bicentennial Man
I’m reading this one right now! This story follows a robot, Andrew, and his gradual transformation as more rights are granted to robots. This one is notable for introducing Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics, which drives much of the story and is still used by science fiction authors today.
By His Bootstraps
This one was absolutely trippy. This story follows a man sitting down to work on his thesis when suddenly a mysterious time gate opens up and another man steps through. This turns out to be his future self, who was accidentally through into the time gate and thousands of years into the future. I love time paradox stories, so this one was fun to untangle.
Microcosmic God
This one is technically a novelette, but I think I would include it anyway. I also haven’t had a chance to read Theodore Sturgeon yet, so I’m excited about this one. It follows a scientist who lives as a recluse on an island and who creates synthetic lifeforms to better humanity.
The Martian Way
The Martian Way is also by Isaac Asimov. It takes place in a world where Mars, Venus, and the Moon have been colonized, and the people who regularly maintain spaceships are called “scavengers.” Some of them make the journey to Saturn to bring back ice, as space travel has put a strain on Earth’s water resources.
The Gold at the Starbow’s End
I also haven’t read Frederick Pohl before, so this one intrigued me, especially since critics regard this one as one of his best. This story also eventually became novel-length. While on a starship heading toward another solar system to colonize it, a space crew begins studying problems in mathematics in their free time. Eventually, it becomes clear that there’s a much bigger reason behind studying the problems.
So that’s what I have on my list so far! See you all later this week for more posts for Sci-fi Month!

I didn’t know Bicentennial Man was a book. I enjoyed the movie. How did it compare?
