Want to submit to science fiction literary journals but don’t want to write short stories? Some speculative journals look for science fiction novellas! These journals’ guidelines range from 10,000 to nearly 100,000 words for science fiction and other speculative writers, making them perfect for anyone looking to publish a novella. Not only that, but many of them also offer pro-rate payment. For where to submit, check out the list below!
GigaNotoSaurus
This speculative journal looks for novellas 17,000 words and higher. They do not accept reprints or simultaneous submissions. Additionally, they try to respond within two months. According to their website, “GigaNotoSaurus accepts Science Fiction or Fantasy (or any combination thereof) … Send us that story you really believe in–the one, maybe, that quickly ran out of places to submit it to because it’s so long.”
This journal also pays $200 upon acceptance! Find their full guidelines here.
Analog
Second, this journal looks for science fiction of up to 80,000 words, which they will serialize at 6 cents a word. They don’t have any particular guidelines on what kind of stories you submit, just so long as science fiction plays a key role in what you submit. Additionally, you can submit your story through their online submission form on their site.

Eraserhead Press
Eraserhead wants work of bizarro science fiction between 20,000 and 100,000 words. According to their website, “If you can make us both laugh and cry or creep us out and draw us in, we will love your book.” They have specific submission periods throughout the year.
For more information, check out their site here and here.
Luna Novella
This small press wants science fiction novellas, as well as works of fantasy, dark fantasy, and broader speculative fiction. To elaborate, they accept “various themes in the context of science fiction, fantasy, horror, alternate history, utopian and dystopian fiction, and supernatural fiction.”
To submit, find their guidelines here and their About page here.
Uncanny Magazine
Lastly, Uncanny Magazine looks for novellas between 17,500 and 30,000 words. They welcome any queries or questions about what they look for. On top of that, they have a new submission system through Moksha, which you will need to use when sending your work. They provide plenty of guidance on how the system works.

As always, happy writing!

I’m not particularly familiar with science fiction literary journals since I’m not the biggest fan of science fiction. But I’m sure this will be very helpful to anyone looking to submit their work.
Thanks so much for reading!
My pleasure!
