Welcome back to another TBR post, Books with Dragons edition! This week, I thought I would talk about books that I have been meaning to read that have dragons in them or are centered around dragons. At this point, I haven’t read too many of them, but I remember reading Christopher Paolini’s Eragon when I was younger. I’ve since found several that I would like to include, as well as books that were already on my TBR and new ones I just discovered. So check them out below!

Dragonsbane
First, I recently found a copy of this book by Barbara Hambly as well as Sun-Cross, so I’m excited about this one. It begins with a nobleman approaching a witch and a lord about slaying a dragon. Perfect for this TBR list!

The Priory of the Orange Tree
I included this story in my Scary SF/F TBR post simply because of how long it is. Thankfully, audiobooks exist! This book, by Samantha Shannon and is a retelling of the legend of Saint George and the dragon. I absolutely love stories from medieval times, so I can’t wait to get into this one.
Dragonflight
I’ve been meaning to read Anne McCaffrey’s books for a little while now. So far, I’ve found copies of the first book in the Dragonriders of Pern series, Dragonflight, as well as Dragonquest and The White Dragon, the second and third books. This first book melds science fiction and fantasy by explaining that humans once colonized a planet that rains down a deadly disease from a nearby star. Only dragonriders and their dragons are capable of saving the planet from the virus.
The Harper Hall Trilogy
These books are also by Anne McCaffrey, and they take place during the events of the Dragonriders of Pern. However, this series is YA, so it’s a little bit easier to get into. (Though I do recommend reading Dragonriders of Pern as well). The first book, Dragonsong, introduces Mellony, a musician invited to join “the hall of the harpers.”
A Wizard of Earthsea
By Ursula K. Le Guin, this book takes place in Earthsea and follows Ged, a mage who attends a school of magic. While there, a “shadow creature” is released from one of his spells, and it’s his job to get rid of it.
The Name of the Wind
Lastly, if I remember correctly, this was also on my Scary SF/F as well. Luckily, I just downloaded an audiobook for it! This book also takes place in a world where magic exists, and the fae all come from a parallel universe. It begins with the narrator listening to a story about a great wizard who existed years ago.
Those are all the books I have so far! I hope to add a lot more. I think one of these days, I need to make a list of every book I have and put it here. Happy reading!

I love Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series and the Harper Hall trilogy! I also like The Name of the Wind, though I don’t remember it featuring dragons very prominently (however, it’s been a while since I read it, so I might have just forgotten). I hope you enjoy(ed) reading them!
I just finished Dragonflight, and I loved it! I can’t wait to read Dragonquest next. Haven’t gotten to The Name of the Wind yet, though. Thanks for reading!
