I admit I struggled a bit about what to post this week. But then I thought, why not just come up with multiple ideas and put them all in one post? After all, I did say I wanted to come up with sci-fi writing prompts for you all.
So, without further ado, here are twenty-five science fiction writing prompts just for you! I hope you may find some inspiration in these. Happy writing!
Note: I made these up off the top of my head, without Google searches from any other sites. If any prompt happens to sound like something that already exists or even something you have written, that is purely coincidental and unintentional.
1. A team of astronauts comes across a mysterious box floating through space toward their ship.
2. A UFO sighting thwarts a military spy’s assassination attempt.
3. A woman wakes up and realizes that her house is the mirror opposite of what it used to look like.
4. Hundreds of people are shocked to discover that their entire city had been uprooted during the night, floating several miles off the ground.
5. A group of children discovers a wormhole while attending summer camp.
6. A scientist thinks they have found a way to make animals talk.
7. Sailors on a pirate ship witness an alien mothership crashland into the ocean.
8. Marine explorers discover an alien creature deep in the Marianas Trench.
9. A man wakes up realizing he is reliving yesterday, and he’ll keep aging backward if he doesn’t figure out a way of escape.
10. Two of Jupiter’s moons collide, and the people of Earth realize the new rogue moon might be heading for them.
11. A woman keeps seeing the same mysterious numbers wherever she goes.
12. A hot-air balloonist discovers an invisible floating city by accident.
13. A woman from another dimension has a clear view of New York from above, and she longs to figure out a way to visit.
14. Passengers on a subway must fight for their lives when it’s mysteriously transported to another planet.
15. One person is chosen to undertake a dangerous journey through space, carrying a select group of androids with him.
16. A family realizes that another family living across the street looks exactly like they do. Not only that, but they copy their exact movements.
17. A professor discovers a sentient computer underneath the university he works in.
18. Virtual reality is completely outlawed in every country, and a group of teenagers want to find out why.
19. Scientists discover a planet completely made of gold.
20. People groups from around the world gather together to witness a peace treaty between Earth and visiting aliens. However, people are divided regarding the outcome.
21. Earth prepares to colonize Mars, then realizes an alien race has already done so. And they plan on colonizing the Moon next.
22. A monk realizes the monastery he has transferred to actually worships the ruins of an alien spacecraft.
23. An architect is abducted by aliens and then forced to build an alien palace.
24. A shipwreck victim stumbled on an island that separates itself between sun worshippers and moon worshippers.
25. One day, it starts raining everywhere on Earth, and it refuses to stop.
