Welcome back to another list of literary journals looking for horror! As the fall semester gets closer, I find myself with less and less time to write. Before long, I’ll be back in the UK. So today I thought I would published another list of literary journals for those wanting to submit horror. Check the list out below!
Parabnormal Magazine
Part of Hiraeth Publishing, this literary journals looks for horror fiction that focuses on the paranormal. Their submission periods include February 1 to March 31, June 1 to July 31, and October 1 to November 30. According to their site, “The subject matter of parABnormal Magazine is, yes, the paranormal. For us, this includes ghosts, spectres, haunts, various whisperers, and so forth. It also includes shapeshifters and creatures from various folklores.” They look for work between 3,000 to 6,000 words, and they pay $30 for original work ($10 for reprints).

Creepy
This podcast/literary journal looks for all things creepy (hence the name). They look for a variety of story types, so long as they are ready for narration, but they particularly look for gender-neutral stories. They also look for single narrator stories. This podcast looks for stories for their Patreon, between 1,000 and 3,500 words and spotlight narrations between 4,000 and 7,000 words. For both of these types, they pay $0.02 per word.

Nocturne Horror Zine
This literary journals looks for all things horror. According to their site, “We want something that makes us stay awake at night. Or have strange dreams. Or wake up still thinking about your piece while we drink our morning coffee. We don’t just want “eww,” or “yikes.” We want to scroll through your submission with trembling fingers.” They look for stories up to 6,000 words and flahs fiction 1,000 words or less. They also pay $10 per story and $25 for cover art.

The Capital Horror
Capital Horror looks for submissions for their anthologies. This year, they want submissions based on domestic horror. According to their site, “We are looking for fiction that finds the monster in the mundane, the dread at the dinner table, the rot in the foundation. The house that should protect us. The routines that should comfort us. We want the stories that make those promises feel like lies.” They look for submissions up to 6,000 words, and they also ask for a $5 reading fee.

Macabre Magazine
This literary journal looks for horror in all kinds of forms. According to their site, “Macabre Magazine is a professional horror publication devoted exclusively to genre storytelling and dark artistic expression. We publish fiction, poetry, nonfiction, artwork, and multimedia that explore the full scope of horror—from the psychological to the supernatural, from the quiet to the grotesque.”

Timber Ghost Press
Lastly, this literary journal looks for horror flash fiction and poetry. For flash fiction, they want 1,000 words or less, and for poetry they want up to 45 lines. They also look for reprints so long as it’s horror. Additionally, they are open for novel submissions! According to their site, “Timber Ghost Press is looking to publish high-quality horror fiction to include cosmic horror, weird horror, sci-fi/horror, gothic, and contemporary. We especially love cosmic horror, wilderness horror, stories that fill you with creeping dread.”
