SF/F Authors on my TBR List

Welcome to the first SF/F TBR of 2025! I’ve been reading a lot more older sci-fi lately (I just finished Dune and just got started 2001), but there are several authors I haven’t introduced myself to yet. I thought I would create a TBR list of authors I am most interested in reading but haven’t gotten to yet.

Have you read any of these authors? What are your favorite works from them? Let me know in the comments!

I heard about Andre Norton a few years ago, but I’ve never had the chance to read her work until now. But I recently gained a copy of some of her work called The Book of Andre Norton, so I feel that would be a good introduction. I also recently found a copy of The Hands of Lyr, which I heard is really good.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Brandon Sanderson, and I heard that Barbara Hambly’s Dragonsbane was a book that got him interested in fantasy. I thought I would check out this book next! I also found a copy of her book Sun-Cross, which also looks exciting.

OK, so technically I have read some work by Ursula K. Le Guin. I recently read some of her short stories, including The Day Before the Revolution and The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. But I haven’t read any of her books, and I recently found a copy of The Left Hand of Darkness. I plan on reading this book as well!

A while back, I was looking at more “older” sci-fi authors, specifically from the 70s all the way back to the 30s. I don’t know why, but I’ve been fascinated by this era of science fiction. So after finding out about Larry Niven’s Ringworld, I knew that was how I wanted to introduce myself to this author.

As a fantasy reader, I have to admit that I still haven’t read anything by Brandon Sanderson. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to! I just haven’t had the time yet. I hope to start with The Stormlight Archive first, even if that means beginning with the HUGE volume The Way of Kings.

Like Brandon Sanderson, I haven’t read any of Terry Pratchett, despite decades worth of books waiting for me to read them. Discworld always sounded like a huge undertaking in terms of reading different books. But my friend just gave me a copy of Mort, so I hope to start there!

So that’s what I have so far! As you can see, I have a huge TBR, but 2025 is a new year, and I hope to read (and write) tons more.
