Sci-fi Books I’m Currently Reading #Scifimonth

Welcome back to another Sci-fi Month post! This week I thought I would take a look at one of the prompts (this is technically the prompt for earlier this week, but who says we can’t do them out of order?).

The prompt is “Currently Reading,” which of course I had the answer to. Check out what science fiction books I’m currently reading below!

I’ve been reading a lot of Heinlein lately, partly because I’ve wanted to get into older sci-fi, and partly because I was interested in some of his work. What started out with All You Zombies— and By His Bootstraps has led to this. This 1950 novella focuses on a man named Harriman who plans on exploiting and taking control of the moon during the first moon landing. Since this was written in the 50s, it actually predicted a lot of what the moon landing would end up being like. I just started so we’ll see how far I get by the end of sci-fi month!

I started reading this one a little while ago. I had heard about the author Justine Ireland and I happened to find this book at a secondhand bookstore. Here’s the premise: what if the Civil War ended because there was a zombie outbreak? This may not be outright “science fiction,” but I love the way the story is playing out and how it handles deeper topics such as racism. I’m almost done with it

I don’t know much about this one, but I wanted to read some of Samuel R. Delany’s works. I do know that this story was nominated for a Hugo after it was published in 1967. It follows Vyme, a mechanic on a giant structure called the Star Pit, which exists on the edge of the galaxy.

So that’s what I’m currently reading right now! I hope to look at more of the Sci-fi Month prompts and see what else I can do. Happy reading!
