5 Resources to Help You Write Better

Hi, everyone! You might have noticed that I didn’t post a book review this week. I just returned to the UK to continue my studies, and I ended up getting sick. So I was dying at that point, and I didn’t have the energy to write anything. But I’m back! Let’s get started.

Writers always look for ways to improve their skills. One way to do that is to find resources that help make your writing better. Below, you’ll find five resources to help you write better.

First off, I used Hemingway for my short stories all the time. This site allows you to paste your work and then checks your writing conciseness. It highlights your sentences in different colors depending on how hard they are to read. It also looks for “weakeners.” These include too many adverbs and anything that could be cut for conciseness. This site also includes a range of pro features for fixing grammar and offering rewrites.

This has been a lifesaver for me when it comes to short-form work, so much so that I make using it a part of my process whenever I write a new story. Check out the website through this link.

Want to plan your novel or even a screenplay? Story Planner allows you to outline your story structure online. Simply go to their website, pick a plan that you want to use (examples include three-act structure or save the cat), and start planning!

Once you choose a plan, Story Planner sets up a series of boxes for you to write down the parts of your structure. This includes things like the opening scene, your themes, and more. Additionally, you can plan your story out by chapter, write log lines and summaries, or just come up with ideas and put them all in one place.

Find Story Planner through this link.

This valuable resource can be found on Medium. The Writing Cooperative provides all kinds of writing advice for whatever struggles you’re dealing with. It might be advice about a specific part of writing. Also, articles about promotion and finding a literary agent. Additionally, some articles even offer types of emotional support. You can even submit your own articles if you have any ideas and know what they’re looking for.

To get to their site, find their articles through this link.

K. M. Weiland also offers a ton of resources through articles on her website. The difference between The Writing Cooperative and Weiland is that she writes all her articles herself. Her site, Helping Writers Become Authors, offers a range of articles and worksheets to help you become a better writer. She also offers a bunch of books on her website store! These books act as writing guides to help you with characters, story structure, and more.

Find her site and writing guides here.

Lastly, this resource comes as an extension to your computer or phone and will scan your work to check for grammar, punctuation, and more. I can’t tell you how many times this resource saved an article or a book review I was working on. When you have it installed on your computer, it also scans your Google Docs and other documents to help you improve your writing. It also includes a plagiarism checker.

Find the website that allows you to paste your work through this link.

Hope these resources end up being as helpful to you as they’ve been to me! See you all next week when I get back into another book review.
