Hello, everyone! This is a special post, since next week and the following weeks are going to be insane with traveling back to the States and the holidays. I wanted to announce that I’ve started writing for MetaStellar’s Writing Advice of the Week!
For context, I’ve worked with MetaStellar, a speculative fiction literary journal, for nearly two years. I write book reviews for their Free Friday series of videos, but I also started writing weekly writing articles for their site and recording YouTube videos of these articles. So far, I’ve created six videos and six articles (this week’s latest article goes up Sunday)!
Check out the five videos below!
How to Worldbuild (Your Physical World)
1. I actually published this article on this blog a long time ago, but I rewrote and republished it on MetaStellar. This article examines the parts of your worldbuilding that involve creating your physical world. This includes climate, your world map, and more. Once you put these details down, your world becomes much more realized as you begin your draft.
Your Fantasy Rough Draft Needs More Description
2. Much of the time, writers forget that they need to add more description to their fantasy novel. In this article, I talk about what description is, when, and how to include it in your draft. I also discuss how to build both your action and your world throughout your draft.
How to Create Immersion in Fantasy
3. Next, I discussed immersion in fantasy and how to create immersion in your fantasy. Imagine you have a fantasy world sitting in front of you, but you aren’t part of that world. The author doesn’t allow you to step inside and experience its beauty. Would you still try to read that story? When you begin writing, know how to add more immersion to create a realized world.
Three Ways to Achieve Your Writing Goals
4. In this post, I explain three different ways to achieve your writing goals. One, creating goals based on word count; two, creating goals based on days of the week; and three, creating goals based on the time of day. I got into more detail on each of these in both the article and video.
How to Add Imagery to Your Speculative Novel
People often talk about how to include imagery in your novel, but this goes beyond just using the five senses. Imagery elevates your description, and there’s a creative process behind bringing a scene and a setting to life. In this article, I talk about different ways you can include imagery and how to create movement and emotion in your story.
When you begin writing your novel, what kind of development do you do? While some writers prefer to be plotters, others are pantsers. While some do more planning than others, there are pros and cons to each, and I discuss them in this article.
So far, I’ve made these articles/videos, but I plan to make so many more. Things might get crazy over the holidays, but I plan to keep it up. I won’t be able to post a book review this week due to traveling, but I’ll be back for another blog post!
