So here I was. All prepared to create another post, when lo and behold! I became ill. Besides generally not wanting to do anything (and needing the rest anyway), I thought this week would be the perfect opportunity to list some tips for writing when you’re battling illness. This will definitely be a short post today, but I hope to show that your writing progress doesn’t have to be derailed by short-term sickness.
1. Take a break! You don’t need to write all the time, every day. Taking the time to reset and recharge at different times, especially when you’re feeling overwhelmed. That’s the best tip for when you’re sick, to be honest!
2. Set small goals (a small word count is better than nothing!). I mentioned this in a post before, but set smaller goals that are easy to complete instead of trying to focus on one large goal. Also, if you have a long-term illness or any condition that makes it difficult to write regularly, try using dictation to write everything down!
3. Read a book instead. As part of taking a break, spend some time reading. Reading is also important for writers, so taking the time to curl up with a good book while sick will help you recharge.
4. Enjoy some time off and think of new ideas. Got a new idea? Write it down!
Other than that, remember to get plenty of rest. There’s no shame in taking a break. See you all next week!
