Interview with Piper Laksari-Minenco

Hi everyone! Welcome back for another author interview! Today, I have the pleasure of introducing Piper Laksari-Minenco, who answered questions about what writing means to them. Additionally, you can find information on their latest book and how to get in touch. Happy reading!

1) What does writing mean to you? What do you think the purpose of writing is?

I think writing exists to make people feel and experience something they otherwise wouldn’t, which I think is something very powerful. As for what writing means to me, it has always been my escape from the everyday. I think it’s largely the reason I’m still alive, to be honest.

2) What particular genre do you write in? Why are you passionate about that genre?

Whilst I tend to read pretty much every genre, my writing tends to stick with the young adult genre. I usually have some kind of focus on mental health in my work as well. For me, I just feel so much more connected to the young adult genre because it’s something I can put my experience into. It’s not as if I’ve had many interactions with serial killers, so horror and thriller go out the window.

3) What does being a writer mean to you?

I absolutely love being a writer because I love the feeling of being able to create entirely new people and just make them come to life on the pages. Most importantly, I love that books can really make people feel heard and I hope that I can do that with my writing. Giving people characters and stories that they can connect to is just the most amazing
feeling.

4) Where and how do you find inspiration?

Inspiration for stories really comes from anywhere. My book, Sunflowers, actually came to me in the form of a dream. As for my characters, they all take bits and pieces from people I meet in real life or other characters that exist. August, for example, is based on one of my closest friends.

5) What are some of the challenges you face as a writer and how do you combat them when you sit down to write or even just prepare to write?

A lot of the time, I have these story ideas that I would really love to pursue, but I don’t know where to start when it actually comes to making them a reality. For me, the best way that I overcome this is to start with the dialogue, and then fill in the gaps later. Once I know what I want my characters to say, the rest of the chapter comes pretty easily.

6) Where can we find some of your writing?

I post some of my shorts and creative pieces on my website, piperlaksariminenco.wordpress.com, if all you want is a little taster. However, my first official book, Sunflowers, is available on Amazon! I also have a collection of shorts in the form of letters, which are free to read on Lulu and Apple Books.

7) Where can we reach you?

I’m always happy to receive emails! Just send a message to piperlaksariminenco@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to get back to you! I also am on Instagram under the handle mx_pipes if you’d prefer to send direct messages.

8) What are some interesting facts about you?

Well, I used to volunteer at a charity shop. It was a great experience, but GCSEs and writing took up too much of my time. I hope to get back to volunteering at some point in the future. That, and I’d really love to travel with my closest friend! I’ve always liked to visit new places.
