First Writing Update of the Year!

In the spirit of an earlier post, here’s my first writing update of the year, the January edition!

So for context I started working on a math fiction/fantasy/science fiction book a while back, and while I finished the first draft a few years back, I only started on the edits while in my undergraduate. I’ve since cracked down, gotten to the bottom of what parts of the story I want to change, and have started editing and/or rewriting a minimum of 1,000 words a day. So…

Right now I’ve edited about 32 pages and over 20,000 words! The downside now is that I’ve looked through it all so much I’ve started overthinking, and now everything looks wrong. I guess that’s what comes from being a perfectionist.

Some shortcomings…

For starters, I haven’t been able to edit 1,000 words a day every single day. It’s probably a good thing considering I’ve given myself a chance to breathe. I’ve been able to work on some other projects a little bit, but not as much as I want. I’m going to try to balance them within the next month. Maybe when I do that I’ll be able to submit to more literary journals and possibly stop procrastinating on everything else. 🙂

I also started working on a short story last year for the Writers of the Future contest, and while I’ve gotten a few pages in, I usually write a few paragraphs and then don’t touch it for weeks. It’s a goal to at least finish the draft early this year. I might write an update post about that as well.

But there you have it. That’s about all I’ve been working on. I’ll be heading back to Cambridge in a couple weeks, so posts might be a little out of order again. Happy writing!
