I first touched on a few well known small presses to let everyone get a feel for what small presses look like and what to expect when researching them. I’d like to continue this series on small presses with another series of presses you can submit to.
Here are a few more small presses to take a look at.
Red Hen Press
Red Hen Press is an independent small press that accepts unsolicited submissions. They look for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, including “novels, memoirs, creative nonfiction, hybrid works, essays, and poetry collections of exceptional literary merit,” according to their guidelines.
You can find their full guidelines as well as their contact information for agented submissions here.
Autumn House Press
Autumn House Press publishes fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. They also have an open call, as well as certain prizes throughout the year. On their guidelines, they list how their books are published and distributed.
Their full guidelines are here. They also ask that you submit through their Submittable platform.
Press 53
This press is unique in that they have no open calls or even solicited submissions. Instead, they look for poetry and short story collections through the prizes they offer throughout the year. On their website, they list the different prizes, their due dates, as well as some advice for being successful with your submission.
You can find their list and advice here.
Bonus: Coffee House Press
They are not currently accepting submissions, but if you subscribe to their newsletter you’ll get updates on when that happens. On their website, they say, “Coffee House Press publishes literary novels, full-length short story collections, poetry, creative nonfiction, book-length essays, and essay collections.”
Find their newsletter subscription page here.
Europa Editions
From what I’ve researched, they don’t take unsolicited submissions, so their submission page is a contact page with a list of the correct people to talk to. They publish fiction in different offices around the world.
You can find their contact page here.
