Something Big Just Happened!
I originally started working on another post this week, but I had unexpected news in my inbox this morning. I recently published a poetry micro-chapbook with Origami Poems Project titled “Isosceles Triangles,” which I planned on offering as a little freebie on here in the near future.
One of the poems, “Scalene,” was nominated for the Pushcart Prize! I’m incredibly excited to tell people about this new bit of news and I’m incredibly grateful to Jan Keough of Origami Poems. I’m including the poem here to read as well.
Scalene
I am tilted,
Arrayed at the end
Of distended queues of logic.
When walking, lightly tread
These gossamer threads
And these splintering fragments
Of my once concrete soul.
Be aware of me, my foundation,
I have no equal,
I am no one’s equal.
For those who aren’t familiar, small presses and publishers nominate poetry, fiction, and other genres from up to six authors they published in the past year for this prize. The prize was started in 1976 by a group of writers including Joyce Carol Oates, Ralph Ellison, and several others.
I thought I would take a moment to celebrate it, even if it’s just a nomination (I think this article by Dana Shavin explains this feeling perfectly by the way). If you had told me two years ago when I had just begun discovering the opportunities associated with literary journals that this would happen, I most likely wouldn’t have believed you. If anything, it’s given me a new form of confidence that I don’t think I should hide.
